Torlon Machining

Torlon® Machined Parts

Meets ASTM D 7292.

Torlon ® is a high performance amorphous (non-crystalline) engineering thermoplastic. Chemically, Torlon ® polyamide-imide (PAI), a reaction product of trimellitic anhydride and aromatic diamines. It is called amide-imide because the polymer chain comprises amide linkages alternative with imide linkages.

The combination of aromatic groups and imide linkages are responsible for the polymer's exceptional thermal stability. The amide groups impart flexibility and elongation, which results in an engineering plastic with exceptional toughness.

Torlon®, being a high-end engineered thermoplastic, features properties such as high thermal endurance, high dimensional stability, low creep, exceptional high heat capability, and broad chemical resistance over an average high-temperature range.

Capable of operating at a continuous temperature of 500°F and ideally suited for bearing, seal, and electrical parts requiring heat resistance.

Torlon® machining to close tolerances is easily achieved with Vanderveer Industrial Plastics. Vanderveer has a complete stock of Torlon® rods, sheets, and tubes ready for custom fabrication.
