ABS Machining

Meets L-P-1183

ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), a common thermoplastic, is largely recognized as a low-cost engineering plastic that shortens the divide between standard plastics and high-performance engineering thermoplastics.

Known as a low cost, tough, easily machined, rigid thermoplastic plastic with high impact strength, it is ideal for turning, drilling, milling, and sawing, Overall, ABS plastics provide a balanced combination of chemical resistance, mechanical toughness, electrical insulating properties, wide temperature ranges, and good dimensional stability, making for a material that fabricates with ease.

The versatility of ABS comes from its three monomers: acrylonitrile enhances heat stability and chemical resistance, butadiene provides impact strength and toughness, and styrene allows for good formability and rigidity. Since ABS is easy to machine and fabricate, it is widely used for machining preproduction prototypes simply because of its excellent dimensional stability.

Machining ABS to close tolerances can be achieved with Vanderveer Industrial Plastics. Our expertise lies in CNC Plastic Machining (CNC Turning, CNC Milling, CNC Cutting and Sawing, and CNC Multiple Axis Machining) of rigid materials such as ABS.
